Facebook has agreed to let third party advertisers use your name and profile pictures, and you probably don’t even know about it.
In Section 10 of the Terms and Conditions (the small print you and I didn’t read and accepted blindly when signing up for our Facebook accounts, like every other Facebook user), it’s in there! We’ve agreeed to allow Facebook to use our Names and Profile pictures to be used in their ads.
I’ve attached a screen capture below:
You can disable your Name and Profile Pictures from being used in their ads by updating your Facebook profile’s Privacy Settings. You can update the settings by clicking on the link below in Method 1 or following the steps in Method 2. Both methods require you to be logged in to your Facebook account.
- Login to your Facebook account.
- Click on Settings (Top right hand corner)
- In Privacy section, click on Manage
- Click on News Feed and Wall
- Select the Facebook Ads tab
- Change the Appearance in Facebook Ads option to No One
Facebook occasionally pairs advertisements with relevant social actions from a user’s friends to create Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules. You may opt out of appearing in your friends’ Facebook Ads below.
